Ugandan Bloggers

I thought this would be easy, I'd go to one of the Ugandan bloggers and steal their blogroll.  It doesn't seem like it's going to be quite so easy.  There are some  good blogs written by Americans and other nationals in Uganda, and I subscribe to a couple.  There are many blogs by Ugandans, and most of the ones I read are on hiatus.  For a while there, bloggers in Kampala were getting together for drinks once a month or so.  I'm not sure what happened, I think they still do.

It doesn't appear to me that the Ugandan Bloggers are getting  organized in the pattern of the Kenyan Bloggers.  The Kenyan Bloggers formed together as a ring.  This was useful for a while and created a lot of interaction between Kenyan blogs.  But as it happens, lots of interaction leads to friction.

I went to one of the Ugandan blogs I read by an American living in Kampala, Glenna Gordon who writes Uganda's Scarlet Lion.  Gordon is part of the blogger meet-ups.  I could be dreaming, but I thought she had a blogroll on her blog.  What I think is going on is that a public face by way of a blog can get a little complicated, and so some people are stepping back a bit and giving others the space they need.  There are still many very good Ugandan Blogs and I'll list some of them here.  I'm just going to have to look a little harder than I thought.

One great place to discover Ugandan blogs, not just Ugandan blogs, but blogs all over Africa is Afrigator.  It's easy to sort by country.  Another great place to discover African blogs is Global Voices there are several ways to sort by country.

Grr the thing about Wikis is they are best when updated.  There are lots of Ugandan bloggers and I've not been keeping track Rebekah Heacock (Jackfruity) poses ten questions to 27th Comrade who's on hiatus from his blog Comunist Socks and Boots over at Global Voices.  Comrade lists three of his favorite bloggers: Baz, Col Ernest Bazanye (RTD), Ivan nada/yada and Turnwijuke ugandan insomniac.  In this post she points ot some of the post in the Ugandan blogosphere that caught her eye this week.  Among them are some blogs new to me.  I'm too lazy now to post links to them--I suppose I'll get around to it eventually.

Shoot, I linked to Ugandan Isomniac the blog and not the blog post.  But do check out it tutumwijuke is one of "the indispensable ones."
